Eagles dive in to swim season

For the first time in over 20 years, Arlington athletes have the opportunity to compete in NSAA sanctioned swimming.
The team includes athletes from Arlington, Fremont, and Fremont Bergan.
So far the team has competed in two meets and they are sitting at 1-1, with a win over Columbus and a loss to Norfolk.
This isn’t the first time the school has had a swim team; in the early 90’s Arlington had a co-op with Fremont, but a change in policy ended the arrangement.
Athletic Director James Shada said that Fremont reached out to Arlington because they had a need to grow their swim team. After meeting with Fremont, and bringing the issue to the Arlington School Board, the new agreement was reached.
“I wanted to provide a good opportunity for the students to compete and learn more about themselves,” Shada said.
Senior Daniel Young said that blending athletes from three schools has gone well, and they all seem to get along great.
“We practice together and we have team dinners,” Young said.
Sophomore Addie Scheimann is another one of the Arlington athletes competing in swimming.
“I have been swimming since I was 7. It has been my only hobby and sport. It is the main thing I focus on,” Scheimann said.
The opportunity to swim is even more special for Scheimann, as she lost part of her right arm in an ATV accident, during the summer of 2017.
“I never had a doubt that I would get back into the water. I was just worried how I would swim differently and re-learn all of the strokes again,” Scheimann said.
